TONE RED @ MCMENAMINS' OLD ST FRANCIS SCHOOL

McMenamins' Old St. Francis School, 700 NW Bond St, Bend, Oregon, US

Come on down to McMenamins' Old St. Francis School for some whiskey inspired songs of soul from Bend's own Tone Red.

Tone Red has been called the "Sister Band" of the local favorite bluegrass band Moon Mountain Ramblers. This is because Tone Red is constructed of mostly the same musicians but with a completely different approach and is fronted by the beautiful vocals of Crystal Pizzola. Edging more towards electric blues, soul, country and old time time, backwoods roots, Tone Red truly brings their own unique flavor to Central Oregon. The band has gained popularity fast and is now performing a wide range of events such as festival stages, weddings, private events and local clubs while also having a local beer named after them, righteously named "Tone Red IRA."

Enjoy music from artist Travis Ehrenstrom. Bend's own folk-rock singer-songwriter is an engaging listen, an eclectic, 21st century take on folk-pop-rock-whatever. Fans of Wilco, Ryan Adams and My Morning Jacket's mellower moments should take notice.

THE RUM & THE SEA @ MCMENAMINS' OLD ST FRANCIS SCHOOL

McMenamins' Old St. Francis School, 700 NW Bond St, Bend, Oregon, US

We're just some guys who make music and have fun doing it in Bend, Oregon. "We had this idea to keep it simple, focus on the storytelling and the harmonies". That was the plan when Bend locals Jason Schweitzer and Brian Hinderberger sat down to form The Rum And The Sea. But with the addition of Ben Samples on Bass, Brent Barnett on Drums, Tyler Canfield on Banjo, and Chris Youngers laying down jazzy lead guitar and harmonizing vocals, "simple" no longer is the adjective that comes to mind when watching this Indie/Folk/Rock/Whatever fits their current mood band blow the roof off of whatever venue they happen to be playing. To be sure, there are moments in their sets when they achieve an almost primal element; when vocal harmonies shine through, and the intense emotion behind a song reaches out and grabs you by the ears, but that only belies the underlying complexity of the ensemble. That they can work together to achieve such a vast reach across different genres and styles of music, and somehow meld it into one seamless set, given their relatively short time playing together, bespeaks the musical wisdom garnered by the individual band members before they ever came together. The result of this final melding of musicianship, is something that keeps crowds dancing, and fans coming to successive shows in the same town. If you haven't made it out to one of their shows yet, do it. Hands down, one of the "must have" experiences of living in Bend.

TUBALUBA @ MCMENAMINS' OLD ST FRANCIS SCHOOL

McMenamins' Old St. Francis School, 700 NW Bond St, Bend, Oregon, US

Get your New Year's Eve-Eve groove on with some authentic New Orleans style brass band jams from Seattle's Tubaluba.

Tubaluba is the brainchild of Josh “Papaluba” Wilson. In 2009, Wilson gathered personnel with the philosophy that players had to be good, and players had to be cool. Musically, Wilson hoped to capture the spirit of New Orleans, and convey it with a brass street band rhythm and style.

The band still plays some of the brass band and vintage soul favorites that inspired it’s conception, but is steadily writing, developing, and performing it’s own repertoire. Their self titled debut was released on Fat Tuesday 2012 to fanfare from Seattle’s KEXP radio, and the second album was released as a vinyl 45 at the Tractor Tavern in Seattle on June 27, 2014.

Come on down and party with Parallel 44 Presents, McMenamins Old St. Francis School and TUBALUBA!

AN EVENING WITH TURKUAZ

Volcanic Theatre Pub, Bend, OR

Parallel 44 Presents and Volcanic Theatre Pub bring you a night of funky funk with An Evening with Turkuaz. Don't miss this one!

Credible bios are supposed to be objective and not full of superlatives and hyperbole, but it’s hard to avoid gushing when the subject is a funk army of multi-instrumentals and singers that is part freight train and part tyrannosaurus rex, who—even on an off night—can blow away a room on the basis of sheer physics alone. That’s one way to describe Turkuaz, but it doesn’t address the music. In this regard, as with any band, influences are everything. One cannot escape them as one seeks to carve out a unique sound for themselves. Still, there are so many benefits to having Sly & The Family Stone, Rick James, Parliament and Bohannon in your record collection. With this as the basis for a recipe, Turkuaz adds healthy doses of jittery, world-pop-power groove—reminiscent of Remain In Light era Talking Heads—and a passion for Motown and R&B, resulting in a refreshing twist on the funk idiom.

AN EVENING WITH JELLY BREAD

Volcanic Theatre Pub, Bend, OR

Parallel 44 Presents is proud to announce the return of Jelly Bread to Bend at the Volcanic Theatre Pub for an evening of amazing grooves. This is an all ages show and doors are at 9:00PM.

Jelly Bread has been featured on some amazing Bend events including headlining Bend Summer Festival, Bend Fall Festival, Deschutes Brewery's Halloween Warehouse Party & McMenamins' St Patty's Day Celebration and over the last two years has built a steadfast following in the Bend area and throughout the Western U.S. Jelly Bread’s musical alchemy blends a dash of alt-rock with soul and funk, yet is thoroughly steeped in Rock-Americana. The band’s chameleonic playlist is highlighted by dual vocals, four part harmonies, in-the-pocket drum and bass grooves, swampy lap steel guitar, dirt under the fingernails guitar licks, and take-’em-to-church organ that is downright appetizing. Jelly Bread has emerged with a high-energy calling card that melds elements of desert twang and the urban tones of funk & rock, balanced by exceptional songwriting and storytelling.

Jelly Bread has been delving into more extensive touring this past year. This past year, Jelly Bread has been tapped to perform opening duties for the likes of Robert Cray, Robert Randolph and the Family Band, Dragon Smoke (members of Galactic), The Motet, Ivan Neville’s Dumpstaphunk, Lukas Nelson and the Promise of the Real, Pimps of Joytime, Sister Sparrow and the Dirty Birds and performed on a bill featuring Bruce Hornsby and Railroad Earth. The band has appeared at premiere festivals to include Joshua Tree, Strawberry and High Sierra Music Festivals.

Over the course of the 2013 summer, in between touring, Jelly Bread spent time recording at Imirage Sound Lab with Tom Gordon who has worked with the likes of Ozzy Osbourne, Collective Soul, Dr. Dre, Boyz II Men, Willie Nelson, Merle Haggard, among many others. After months of dedication, the band emerged with a their latest EP titled “Lessons Learned”.

The EP, which includes the head-nodding, signature energetic funk and rock soul listeners have come to expect from Jelly Bread, maintains the honest storytelling of the more Americana influences Jelly Bread has been rooted in since its inception.
